June is looking very good over at Netflix
Viewers were able to pick up the binge with Selena: The Series which returned with its second and final season exactly five months after the first season’s December premiere.
In addition, Netflix didn’t make the more than 55 million subscribers hooked on the Mexican drama series Who Killed Sara? wait for a second season. The streamer released an additional eight episodes just two months shy of the March 24 premiere. There was a bit of an obsession with this one and it climbed to the No. 1 spot and yes, there will be a third season!
Viewers also went crazy for Lupin, which first premiered on the platform on January 8, and it’s coming back in June. Netflix reported soon after its release that the French heist drama was projected to be watched by more than 70 million households its first 28 days on the platform. In reality, that number was even higher with roughly 76 million member accounts worldwide tuning in. Lupin was the most-watched title on the streamer in the first three months of 2021, according to the company's internal metrics.
Sweet Tooth (June 4, Eight Episodes) - Based on the 2009 DC comic book series by Jeff Lemire, Sweet Tooth is a unique tale that begins ten years ago when a cataclysmic virus known as “The Great Crumble” forever changed the world and led to the mysterious emergence of hybrids: babies born part human, part animal. Many humans fear and hunt them because they’re unsure if they are the cause or result of the virus. This story centers on a sheltered hybrid deer-boy named Gus (Christian Convery), who after a decade of living safely in his secluded forest home, unexpectedly befriends a wandering loner named Jepperd (Nonso Anozie). Together they set out on an extraordinary adventure across what’s left of America in search of answers about Gus' origins, Jepperd's past and the true meaning of home. But their story is full of unexpected allies and enemies and Gus quickly learns the lush, dangerous world outside the forest is more complex than he ever could have imagined. This series is executive produced by Jim Mickle, Beth Schwartz, Robert Downey, Jr., Susan Downey, Amanda Burrell and Linda Moran.
Lupin Part 2 (June 11, Five Episodes) - The Omar Sy-helmed series picks up right where it left off with Assane's quest for revenge against Hubert Pelligrini, the man who destroyed his family. The series is inspired by the adventures of Arsène Lupin, a fictional gentleman thief and master of disguise created by French author Maurice Leblanc in 1905. With his back to the wall, Assane now has to think of a new plan, even if it means putting himself in danger. Starring alongside Sy are Hervé Pierre, Nicole Garcia, Clotilde Hesme, Ludivine Sagnier, Antoine Gouy, Shirine Boutella and Soufiane Guerrab. The Netflix original series was created by George Kay (Criminal, Killing Eve) in collaboration with François Uzan (Family Business). The series will be directed by Ludovic Bernard and Hugo Gélin and is produced by Gaumont Télévision’s Isabelle Degeorges and Nathan Franck.
Penguin Town (June 16, Eight Episodes) - This documentary series, narrated by Patton Oswalt, will introduce viewers to a rowdy colony of African penguins as they hit the sun-drenched beaches and break all the rules.
