This month, Netflix boasts an absolute onslaught of great new movies to choose from. In total, 74 fresh films will be added to the streaming giant’s library over the course of 30 days, with several of those options already available on the Netflix platform.

But which movies are most worth your time? What great movies are already available, and which ones should you anticipate the most?

This article will feature ten noteworthy movies that I either personally love or am really looking forward to. Then at the end of the story, you can find a full list of every movie to be added to Netflix in June 2021 (and when they’ll be available).

The Big Lebowski (June 1)

Ah, this first one is a classic! The Big Lebowski remains the crowning achievement of the Coen brothers’ filmography in many people’s opinions (including mine). This crime/comedy follows Jeff “The Dude” Lebowski, who gets roped into a crazy kidnapping situation that upends his life.

The Best Man (June 1)

If you grew up in the ‘90s, then you were well aware of how awesome Taye Diggs was. But if you happened to miss the magic, then I suggest you check out The Best Man. This romantic comedy stars Diggs as a committed bachelor who is set to be the best man at his friend’s wedding. Drama ensues, however, as his soon-to-be-released book is secretly based on the lives of his close friends.

What Women Want (June 1)

Back when Mel Gibson was a leading man in Hollywood, he churned out several great films. But only one of those projects was a romantic comedy—and it was a gem. What Women Want stars Gibson as Nick Marshall, a chauvinistic advertising executive who inherits the ability to hear what women are thinking.

Stand By Me (June 1)

For the longest time, I assumed that just about everybody had seen Stand By Me. But more and more over the years, I’ve noticed that younger generations have missed out on this classic ‘80s film. Stand By Me follows four young boys who decide to go find the body of a man who was killed near their small Oregon town.

Streets of Fire (June)

Oh man, it doesn’t get much better than Streets of Fire. I miss movies that were this unflinchingly ambitious and stylistic—especially musicals that were this bold. Streets of Fire centers on a merciless biker gang that kidnaps a rock singer named Ellen. We then follow Ellen’s former lover, who attempts to save her.

Awake (June 9)

Netflix has several original projects debuting this month, and one of the most anticipated films has to be Awake. This dystopian flick starring Gina Rodriguez takes place in a world where a mysterious catastrophe has wiped out all electronics and stripped humans of the ability to sleep.

Silver Skates (June 16)

While Silver Skates is just one of several new Netflix Originals this month, this film happens to be the first Russian project that Netflix has acquired the rights to. This fantasy/action epic centers on a petty thief on skates who warms the heart of an aristocrat’s daughter.

Silver Linings Playbook (June 17)

Nearly ten years ago, Silver Linings Playbook became the first film since Reds (1981) to be nominated in all four acting categories at the Academy Awards—with Jennifer Lawrence taking home the prize for Best Actress. The movie follows a man named Pat who tries to put his life back together after a stint in a mental institution.

Fatherhood (June 18)

Easily the most anticipated film of all the Netflix Originals in June 2021, Fatherhood promises to showcase both Kevin Hart’s comedic and dramatic chops. This dramedy follows a father who must raise his baby girl as a single parent after his wife unexpectedly dies.

Killing Them Softly (June 28)

What now seems like one of the great forgotten films of the 2010s is now available on Netflix. Killing Them Softly—which stars an all-star cast that includes Brad Pitt, James Gandolfini, Ray Liotta, Scoot McNairy, Ben Mendelsohn and Richard Jenkins—follows an “enforcer” named Jackie Coogan, who sets out to restore the local criminal economy after a collapse.
