Topline

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) on Thursday continued to make comparisons between her modern day opponents and Nazi Germany just days after her own party leaders condemned her for similar remarks.

Key Facts

At a rally in Georgia with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), Greene said the Nazis were the National Socialist Party “just like the Democrats are now a national socialist party.”

Moments earlier, Greene had accused the media of spending four years “calling Republicans Nazis” and comparing Trump to Hitler, stating “Nazi” is a “mean, nasty dirty word.”

Greene, who has also come under fire for a recently resurfaced video of her saying in 2020 she would oppose the removal of Hitler statues, said Hitler is “one of the most evil men to ever walk this earth,” calling Trump “the best president ever.”

Greene also spent much of the rally tearing into the “squad,’”a group of progressive women of color serving in the House, dubbing them the “Jihad Squad” and accusing them of supporting Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Greene said members of Congress "should be expelled if they're supporting terrorism,” despite her own sympathetic remarks about the Trump supporters who attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6.

Crucial Quote

“The Second Amendment is not about hunting, it’s not about recreation, it’s not about sports,” Gaetz said at the rally in a speech ahead of Greene’s. “The Second Amendment is about maintaining within the citizenry the ability to maintain an armed rebellion against the government, if that becomes necessary,” he added.

Key Background

Greene drew criticism from GOP leaders in Congress this week after she compared the House chamber mask mandate to the yellow stars Jews were forced to wear during the Holocaust, later doubling down and comparing vaccine verification measures to the yellow stars as well.

Chief Critic

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy slammed Greene’s mask mandate comparison as “wrong” and “appalling” in a statement on Tuesday, adding, “Let me be clear: the House Republican Conference condemns this language.”
