AEW Double or Nothing was a fun, high-energy—if not long—show as AEW saw its biggest crowd since the pandemic. Daily’s Place was packed, and after a year it became obvious who did the best job of getting over throughout the past year during the closed-set era of AEW.

Double or Nothing featured a major title change on a largely predictable, mostly entertaining show.

Winner: Britt Baker

Britt Baker was one of the most over stars in the building, and had one of the best matches of the night in an emotional win over Hikaru Shida. Baker’s “D.M.D.” chant continues to be over on the level of the “RVD” chant. And while Hikaru Shida was a a great champion, the AEW Women’s World Championship finally feels like it is on its hottest star.

Winner: Hangman Adam Page

Hangman Adam Page got easily a Top-3 reaction as the top babyface picked up right where he left off before the pandemic as arguably the most popular AEW star. Page had a tremendous opening match against Brian Cage, and figures to continue his slow crawl to what should be a shoo-in future AEW Championship win.

Losers: AEW Referees

AEW’s theme of outside interference continued throughout Double or Nothing, and Jim Ross was not shy about openly criticizing the referees for their obvious shortcomings amid extra curricular activities. Rick Knox received a particular amount of criticism for continuously allowing The Young Bucks to double-team Jon Moxley. AEW’s referees continue to have their credibility undermined by outside interference and loosey goosey officiating which run the risk of cheapening matches.

Winners: The Young Bucks

The Young Bucks were phenomenal as heels on a night where a hot crowd was eager to cheer just about anything. The Bucks fantastically trolled the crowd with an early-’80s offense early in the match, before launching into some of their staple moves and also brawling to an extent. This match had everything, possibly overstayed its welcome, but ultimately added to the legacy of AEW’s best tag team championship runs in its young history.

Winner: Jungle Boy

As expected, Jungle Boy’s theme music was instantly over with the live crowd, which enthusiastically sang along to his theme. With crowds back, Jungle Boy is on a short list of wrestlers who stand to benefit the most. While Jungle Boy will be a long shot to win the AEW Championship, which will likely require beating Kenny Omega, he could be made into AEW’s next Darby Allin as long as he is protected.

Losers: Cody and Anthony Ogogo

Cody and Anthony Ogogo worked hard, however after a very hot first hour, they were somewhat sacrificed in a popcorn spot. Fans came down much more for this match, and while Cody did a good job working around Ogogo’s limitations, this match really didn’t tell a story connected to the America vs. United Kingdom storyline.

Winner: Sting

Despite having to follow Britt Baker’s emotional win, this crowd was determined in going crazy for the team of Darby Allin and Sting. Sting instantly stole the show with a wild stage dive onto Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky that might have produced the biggest pop of the night to this point.

Sting also looked great during a comeback in the climactic stages of the match, with The Icon garnering multiple “you still got it!” chants.

Winner: Orange Cassidy

Orange Cassidy received the biggest reaction of all three contenders in a great AEW World Championship match. There was a real thirst for Cassidy to spring the upset, and he showed well after being somewhat stagnant following his wins over Chris Jericho.

Though AEW seems to be committed to a long-term plan with Kenny Omega, there may be no denying Orange Cassidy as he continues to heat up.
