Now that a full tracking week has passed, BTS’s new single “Butter” jumps up the most important songs ranking in their home country of South Korea, rising all the way to No. 1 on the Gaon Digital chart. This is a position they know very well, as they have now topped the list more than 10 times.
The Gaon Digital chart ranks the most popular, most-consumed songs in South Korea every week using a methodology that combines sales, streaming and what is called BGM, which stands for background music (usually used in various forms of media).
“Butter” doesn’t debut at No. 1, as it does in the U.S. this week, but rather steps up the few spots that separated the tune from the peak, as it opened at No. 4 last frame on the Gaon Digital chart. The cut did start its time on the Gaon Download ranking at No. 1 last period, and this time around it stays in the driver's seat for a second frame.
BTSBTS have now ruled over the Gaon Digital chart with at least a dozen singles, making them one of the most successful acts of all time in South Korea. The band has controlled the tally with smashes like "Blood Sweat & Tears," "Fake Love,” “Idol,” “Boy With Luv” with Halsey, and most recently, "Dynamite."
In addition to being another No. 1 for BTS, “Butter” is, of course, one more top 10 hit in the country for the group (though it was already inside the area). Looking at the entire top tier, the septet has now placed in the region with at least 22 tunes.
“Butter” is, so far, a standalone single, though chances are it will be connected to a full-length project at some point in the coming months. BTS has a new Japanese compilation coming later in June titled BTS, the Best, but at some point after that they will likely return to proper albums, as they never wait too long in between releases.
