These days, it seems like whenever BTS release a new much-hyped music video, the ranking of the top 10 largest debuts on YouTube shifts. The band is almost always assured to land one of the most impressive view counts for an upload in its first 24 hours, as they have done so many times before, and they performed better than ever before with their latest launch.
Last month, BTS’s “Butter” music video premiered on Youtube, and fans all around the world wasted no time in viewing it right into the history books. The clip was played 108.2 million times in just the first full day it was available, and that now stands as the largest one-day sum ever. In fact “Butter” is just the second-ever release to rack up at least 100 million plays in 24 hours, following another tune from the same band.
According to YouTube itself, BTS now occupy four spots on the list of the 10 greatest first-day accumulations. This was the case before “Butter” arrived, but now the septet has rearranged the order, replacing themselves at No. 1.
As “Butter” now stands as the video with the largest one-day debut on YouTube, BTS’s previous global smash “Dynamite” falls to second place. That brilliantly-colored clip opened with 101.1 million views in its first 24 hours, which took place last summer. At the time, it made history as the first upload to pass the 100 million-view mark in just a day.
BTS earn a third spot inside the top five on the important list with their single “Boy With Luv,” a collaboration with pop singer Halsey. That must-see treatment started with 74.6 million views in its first 24 hours, which is enough to put it down at No. 5.
The band’s very recent single “Life Goes On,” which hit charts all around the globe in December 2020, dips one spot (as does every track on this ranking) to No. 6. It launched with 71.6 million plays in its first day on YouTube.
Before “Butter” took over the No. 1 spot, BTS also claimed four rungs on this top 10 list, though they did so with one video not previously mentioned. The band’s "On (Kinetic Manifesto Film: Come Prima)” clip sat at No. 10 on the tally, and now that every title has been forced down a single peg, there’s no more room for that dance-heavy post any longer.
