Horizon: Forbidden West was arguably the marquee reveal of Sony’s first true PS5 stream, back when the world was young, but we haven’t seen a whole lot of it since then. That’s about to change this week, when Sony is going to dedicate a State of Play towards showing off the upcoming game. Here’s what you need to know about it:

Sony’s Horizon: Forbidden West State of Play will air on Thursday, May 27, at 2:00 PM Pacific. It will be 20 minutes long, including 14 solid minutes of gameplay. If I had to guess, I’d say that the best analog would be the State of Play for Ghost of Tsushima, Sony’s last open-world exclusive adventure.

You can watch the thing here, or on any of Sony’s other channels. There’s also a pre-show starting at 9:00 AM Pacific, which you can watch on Youtube. I’ll embed it below, because why not?

I’ll be interested to see what we get. The game is clearly designed as a graphical showcase for the PS5, but it’s also going to be available on PS4. That means that I’d expect to see a lot of attention paid to the sorts of stuff that can be toned down for weaker hardware, like foliage density and lighting effects: plants are always good for showing off, and I remember games like Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag leaning on them at the start of the Ps4/Xbox One generation as well. We saw a glimpse of some underwater exploration in the original reveal, so expect some more of that in here.

I loved the original Horizon Zero Dawn, though some of the world building left me a little flat. For me, the story and all that took a major backseat to the simple act of shooting robot dinosaurs with a bow, which was a fabulously satisfying experience every time. So all I’m really hoping from the next one is more opportunities to shoot robot dinosaurs with a bow, and I’m feeling pretty good about my chances on that front. Tune in on Thursday to get a better idea of what’s coming our way, and ideally when it’s coming.
