Five just-released titles debut inside the top 10 on this week’s albums chart in the U.K., while one other project returns to the list inside the highest tier, meaning 60% of all the spaces inside the loftiest area on the ranking are filled by efforts that have never before appeared between Nos. 1 and 10.
Leading the way is Olivia Rodrigo’s Sour, the first album from the teen pop sensation. The title opens at No. 1 in the same week her most recent single “Good 4 U” lifts to the peak, giving her the coveted chart double. Sour marks Rodrigo’s first solo placement on the albums ranking in the U.K., and so far, four tracks from the effort have pushed into the top 10, with two more doing so this frame. Rodrigo leads a top four full of new releases.
Pioneering electronic musician Gary Numan almost collected his third No. 1 solo record this week with new full-length Intruder, which blasts onto the ranking at No. 2. The legendary star has now appeared inside the top 10 on the U.K. albums chart with seven efforts on his own and one with his old band Tubeway Army.
Alternative rockers Twenty One Pilots come in at No. 3 this week with their latest offering Scaled And Icy. The set marks their third trip 10 the top 10, and it was powered by the singles “Shy Away,” “Choker” and “Saturday,” all of which reached the U.K. songs chart.
Rounding out a top four composed entirely of new launches is Pink’s All I Know So Far - Setlist, the first live album from the pop singer. The set is her milestone tenth top 10 in the U.K., and it’s her first to miss hitting No. 1 in almost a decade. Two singles from the project have been released so far (the only two non-live recordings), and both became minor hits in the country.
Earlier in 2021, the superstar dropped a collaboration with her daughter Willow Sage Hart titled “Cover Me In Sunshine,” and it rose to No. 52. This week, the title track “All I Know” jumps to No. 39, coincidentally becoming her thirty-ninth top 40 smash.
Down several spots are Rag’N’Bone Man’s Life By Misadventure and J. Cole’s The Off-Season, which settle at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively.
Back on the U.K. albums chart, and at a new high, no less, is My Bloody Valentine’s Loveless. Originally released way back in 1991, fans flocked to the Irish band’s sophomore effort and pushed it to a new high of No. 7, making it the act’s first top 10.
Two more titles lose ground this frame, pushed down by incoming and more exciting new releases. Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia falls to No. 8, while The Weeknd’s The Highlights declines to No. 9.
New at No. 10 is Gruff Rhys’ Seeking New Gods, the latest release from the Welsh producer, songwriter and musician. This latest effort marks his first trip to the top 10, and also his first top 20.
