Potter and designer Jonathan Adler has paved his own unique path in the design world with his modern and glamorous furnishings and accessories. Now, he is releasing his first-ever neon collection in collaboration with design brand Yellowpop. The collection will feature eight vibrant designs, including some of his most iconic and recognizable motifs in the form of LED neon signs.
The collection includes matching monsieur and madame designs; “Peace” and “Love” signs; trippy head pentaptych with cheeky plumes of smoke; and his iconic pill designs. This is Adler’s first time working with neon.
“I describe my work as Modern American Glamour, and to me, neon is all of these things,” Adler exclusively tells Forbes. “It’s quintessentially American. My designs can be eclectic, but now they’re electric!”
Fans of Adler’s playful work will love the Atlas Round Sign and the Atlas Long Sign, which were inspired by his Atlas Split Vase, which he says is “basically the idea of splitting a head down the center and rotating it so it creates a repeating pattern.” Other motifs include the eye, and Adler says he is “obsessed with eyes” and “I love looking around the room and seeing eyes staring back at me.”
Adler and Yellowpop were first introduced in Paris, which led to a no-brainer collaboration between the two. Yellowpop founders Jeremy Cortial and Ruben Grigri were fans of Adler for a long time and thought a collaboration would be a perfect fit. Launched in 2018, Yellowpop’s neon signs promote positive vibes, and the company has partnered with several artists, creators and designers, including Susan Alexandra, Sarah Bahbah, Diet Prada, André Saraiva and Emily Eldridge.
Yellowpop’s mission is to bring joy to the home and change the way people decorate their homes. Through their many collaborations, people are able to decorate their homes how they want to with pieces that are bold and match their personalities, while also bringing some vibrant light and unexpected colors into their lives. Yellowpop also hopes to showcase beautiful art from creators all over the world in a different way.
“I’ve always loved neon, but in the past it had a notoriously bad reputation for being outrageously expensive and difficult to work with,” Adler says. “The geniuses at Yellowpop have tackled that conundrum with LED neon mounted on plexiglass that is not only affordable, but easy to install and eco-friendly.”
It’s hard to find a category Adler hasn’t covered, as he has stores across the world, works on several residential and commercial projects and has a booming global wholesale business.
“I’m a restless designer; the more I make the more I want to make, and for years there’s been a neon-shaped hole in my heart,” says Adler, who first launched his brand in 1993. “So when the Yellowpop team called, I picked up the phone. I’ve always loved neon. To me, it’s so quintessentially American, but I’ve never really worked with it before so it felt like a very natural partnership for us both.”
Each piece is $290 and will be available online at Yellowpop.
