About 500 years ago, on the damp moors of Scotland, the origins of men’s golf apparel began. But given the cool climate of Scotland, the need for warm apparel became the priority. Since then, great modifications have been made; both in the sport and in the style. As the nation prepares for Father’s Day 2021, here is a brief look into the history of men’s golf fashion.
About 100 years ago, in the 1920’s, golf was growing in popularity amongst society’s elite. At this time, golf apparel was elevated to please the taste of the players as well as their elite circle of friends and spectators. By the mid-twentieth century, men were more interested in comfort apparel as well as high-octane color combinations. Soon thereafter, the first knitted golf shirt was introduced. Since then, fit and performance has taken precedence with players and consumers.
The 1970’s brought about a great shift in style. Kelly green became a prominent color on the greens as well as bold patterns of houndstooth and checks. By the 1990’s, athletic sponsorships were becoming more and more apparent on the athletes. More importantly, these sponsorships greatly influenced consumers at home leading golf apparel in a whole new direction - geared toward consumers.
When it comes to present day golf apparel, technology is the latest invention that allows you to bring out your best game yet! These days players and consumers are demanding made with anti-odor fabrics that wick moisture & keep you comfortable on the golf course. Given many Americans haven’t seen their Fathers since the beginning of the pandemic, gift-giving has many options to offer consumers such as Amazon, travel packages, giftcards..... And now that air travel is coming back to full capacity, you can purchase your Father’s Day gift on-the-go with Cancun shopping.
