Amad Diallo might not be a household name for Manchester United fans just yet, but the young starlet, signed from Atalanta last summer, will soon make his mark for the Red Devils.
The Ivory Coast international has made eight first team appearances under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since arriving in Manchester in January of this year. A smattering of cameo performances has not given United fans too much to go off, but there is immense anticipation to watch Amad flourish into a crafty player.
At only 18 years of age, Amad clearly has a lot of learning to do, especially having come from Italy with Atalanta where the style of football is completely different. In the brief time that he has been with the Red Devils, Amad’s game heavily revolves around his nimbleness and ability to beat players.
Manchester United have always recruited wingers who are able to beat their opposite man with guile and skill. Amad appears to be no different. A slight frame, standing at 1.73m, he has the quick-footedness needed and low centre of gravity to dribble around on-rushing defenders. The Ivorian’s panache is evident and a sight to behold when in full motion.
Competing with Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood and potentially Jadon Sancho, who has been heavily linked to the club, is not going to be the easiest to navigate, but given the club have spent £18 million on him upfront, it is expected that he will receive game time.
Solskjaer has shown his admiration of youth and desire to bring the younger players through, as he handed more debuts out last weekend against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Manchester United’s youth teams are ripe with talent and it is now down to the Norwegian to be able to supply them with the next stepping blocks in their careers to progress.
By all accounts, Amad has the characteristics and temperament to succeed at Old Trafford, it is just now down to him to be able to take his chances when presented to him. Next season, Manchester United should have ample opportunity to allow for this to happen with the amount of games and competitions they will be entered in.
It is still incredibly early in Amad’s career, but the early signs are certainly positive with so much to come and blossom from him. For Manchester United fans, this player is certainly one to watch and keep an eye out for.
