Indian actor Salman Khan’s recent film, Radhe Your Most Wanted Bhai saw a global release a week ago and the first week numbers for box office collection are rather average.
An estimated $ 2.5 million of worldwide collection may seem a decent figure for the first week, given the global pandemic that we continue to face. The numbers are nowhere next to what a star like Khan would traditionally command. Trade experts, however, believe that the producers should have waited for some time (for a theatrical release in India as well) as the box office collection is not at par with the figure that a Salman Khan movie would have garnered in the domestic market.
Directed by Prabhudheva, the film traces Radhe (essayed by Khan) who is called upon to tackle the mess of drug trafficking in the city of Mumbai. While the overall environment of the movie follows a typical Salman Khan film model, a lack of fresh approach and more rational script made it worse. The film was widely panned by critics, resulting in a negative word-of-mouth.
Of the estimated $ 2.5 million, nearly forty-five percent contribution came from the Middle East. Rough estimates also suggest that the movie collected $ 250 thousand over the first week of its release in the United States of America. No official figures have been released for the box office collection.
Producer and eminent trade analyst Girish Johar says that Khan has a better holding in India, and the Middle East comes next to India in terms of his popularity. “Considering the global pandemic, the performance (of the film) is decent. The film took a good start, but it could not sustain the growth over the following days,” he says.
