A Balmain catwalk isn’t complete without it’s signature wavy undone hair look, but of course, in true maison style, the look is completely polished.

Kasper Heemskerk, the International Education Manager at Balmain Hair Couture offers his step-by-step guide to creating this effortless undone/done hair style.

Undone, done hair is the preferred look on the Balmain catwalks, and many other fashion shows. The challenge is to create hair that looks undone but not messy. Each hair needs to be touched but must look like nothing has been done to it. When using the right tricks to re-create such a look, it is easier than it seems and can even be done without using a heat tool!

Step 1: Start on clean damp hair and apply Balmain Hair Couture’s Texturizing Salt Spray on each hair strand. This will help create texture and hold to ensure that style stays in place all day long.

Step 2: Brush the hair using the Detangling Brush and divide the hair into four to six sections depending on the result and amount of hair. For more loose curls, only use four sections and for a tighter curl, use six or more sections. Braid each section into a loose braid and leave the end of the hair out.

Step 3: Let the hair dry overnight for heatless waves or defuse dry the hair, making sure that the airflow direction is always down. This will ensure smooth hair without flyaways. For extra hold, apply heat to each braid using a straightener; the Limited Edition Cordless Straightener would be the ideal tool for this.

Step 4: When the hair is dry and cooled, unbraid the hair and loosen the curls. To create extra glamour, smooth the end with the straightener and create an S-wave on two face-framing sections on each side of the parting. The S-wave can be created by pushing a small section of hair through the straightener and create an S shape.
