Many Indian states have begun opening up after months of shutdown due to the second wave of the ongoing pandemic. However, movie producers are not ready to place bets on theaters yet and all the major projects are line up for digital releases. From Raj and DK’s The Family Man 2 to Vidya Balan-starrer Sherni and many more, here is a list of all big releases movie buffs are looking forward to this June.
The Family Man (June 4): Manoj Bajpayee reprises his role of undercover agent Srikant Tiwari who is caught between his high-risk job and the responsibilities of a middle-class Indian family. The new season will also feature Sharib Hashmi and Priyamani. Samantha Akkineni will make her digital debut with the show. Creators Raj and DK, of Go Goa Gone fame have blended the genres of comedy, thriller and action for the first season of the show that proved to be a surprise hit among the audience. The second season is expected to have a similar, entertaining cocktail.
Ray (June 25): A four-part anthology based on short stories by legendary artist Satyajit Ray, Ray will feature Manoj Bajpayee, Ali Fazal, Kay Kay Menon, Raghubir Yadav, and Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor. Filmmaker Abhishek Chaubey (of Udta Punjab fame) and Vasan Bala (of Mard Ko Dard Nahin Hota fame) have directed one episode each while national film award-winner Srijit Mukherji has directed two episodes. Sayantan Mukherjee is the creator and showrunner.
Sherni (June ): Vidya Balan plays the lead role of a forest officer in the movie. It is directed by Amit Masurkar who previously helmed Rajkummar Rao-Pankaj Tripathi-starrer Newton that was India's official entry for the 90th Academy Awards. A date is yet to be announced, but Sherni producers have confirmed that the film will release in June itself.
Sunflower (June 11): Sunil Grover and Ranvir Shorey lead the star cast for the comic thriller. The series is directed by Rahul Sengupta, an ad filmmaker with 5 Cannes Lions to his name and created by national awarded-winning director Vikas Bahl.
36. Jagame Thandiram (June 18): The Tamil action film featuring Dhanush in the lead role, was originally supposed to release last year but is now landing on Netflix this month. It is directed by Karthik Subbaraj.
