BTS can sell music like almost nobody in the music industry, especially when it comes to a new song that’s been hyped for weeks and is promoted heavily as the band’s latest proper single. This frame, the band sees their latest launch “Butter” start off brilliantly in pretty much every country in the world, and the track’s performance in Canada is historic in more ways than one.
“Butter” kicks off its time on the Canadian Digital Song Sales chart at No. 1, which isn’t shocking, as it was the bestselling tune in many places. The track is the second leader for the K-pop favorites (though “Butter” is performed entirely in English), and with another champion to their credit, the seven-member vocal group has landed the third-ever ruler on the sales-only list among musical acts hailing from South Korea.
Also, with a second No. 1 on the Canadian Digital Song Sales chart, BTS break out of a tie with another superstar from South Korea to claim the most smashes on the tally. They first reached the summit last year when their disco-pop hit “Dynamite” went right to the top.
The only other song released by a South Korean musician to hit No. 1 on the Canadian Digital Song Sales chart is Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” which rocketed to the peak position nearly a decade ago. Now he sits in second place among all musical acts from the Asian territory to make it to the highest point on the purchase-focused list, though these are still fairly small numbers of winners, as these are still early days for widespread adoption of South Korean acts in the northern nation.
“Butter” is BTS’s lucky thirteenth top 10 hit on the Canadian Digital Song Sales chart, and they have now seen at least three tracks stall just one rung shy of running the show. Looking at the entire 50-spot tally, the band has now sent at least 50 tracks to the roster.
